Cloud DevOps Engineer (Cardiff, UK) in VC-Funded, Fast-Growing Software Startup Up to 45k plus stock options, flexible working and travel opportunities.

Bipsync is a fast growing, venture-funded SaaS startup with a product obsessively designed to help financial organizations manage their research. Most of our customers are multi-billion dollar hedge funds and asset managers based in New York.

This is a full-time position based out of our modern and spacious Cardiff office in Stadium Plaza, a stone’s throw from Cardiff Central train station. We also have an office in New York with the potential for international travel.

As a DevOps Engineer you will be entrusted with the security, architecture, management and maintenance of our client installations and our internal systems.

You need to have proven experience of managing networks of Linux machines within the AWS ecosystem, ideally through the use of automation and orchestration tools.

About the DevOps Engineer Role:

You will be largely responsible for managing our Linux systems, most of which are multi-instance AWS installations hosted in VPCs. Since it is critical that our systems are secure you will also be tasked with establishing and maintaining the integrity of our servers against malicious attacks.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting internal systems such as our Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines and other ancillary systems.
  • Writing and maintaining automation scripts and tools to increase system efficiency, quality, and reduce human intervention on any task.
  • Supporting highly available 24/7 production applications with monitoring, self-healing infrastructure, redundancy, resilience, logging and metrics.
  • Working closely with the Development team during the application development process to identify and implement infrastructure requirements through to deployment.
  • Working closely with the finance team to ensure that our systems are cost-efficient. Identifying options for improving performance, maintainability and operability.
  • Participating in the architecture, engineering, planning, upgrade and maintenance of all infrastructure.

Skillset:

The DevOps Engineer will need to apply the following skillset to the role, so knowledge and/or experience of the following will be beneficial:

  • Medium scale (100-1000 host) cloud environments
  • Encryption
  • Handling of sensitive data
  • Backups and Disaster Recovery
  • Database clustering and redundancy
  • Configuration Management
  • CI/CD
  • Systems Architectures
  • Systems Engineering
  • Security policies

Technologies:

Ideally you’ll have excellent knowledge and experience of the following technologies, or comparable ones:

  • Linux (Ubuntu)
  • Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, ELB, IAM, VPC)
  • Ansible
  • Terraform
  • Operating-system-level virtualization (LXD, Docker)
  • CI/CD e.g. Jenkins
  • Some level of AWS certification is preferable but not essential.
