Sequence got going in 1995 and is now bigger, better, and prettier than ever. There’s about 60 of us working from our office in central Cardiff, with a mixture of developers, designers, project managers and everything else you need to make an agency go around. Lots of us are geeks, not just the traditional gaming and/or coding sort, but across many different subject areas too from mountain biking to composing to stand up comedy.

We can be a pretty socialable bunch (football team, parties, gaming nights, etc.) but we work hard too. Most people at Sequence say they’re here for the people, but the work can be pretty cool too!

We build websites and applications for a massive variety of clients. We’ve made intranets, extranets, brochure websites, mobile apps, and all sorts of other things. We also do a whole bunch of other digital stuff like games, campaigns and strategy work.

Thanks to a steadily increasing stack of awesome projects, our 2-man UX team is looking for a third to join us in a junior or middleweight role.

What you’ll be doing:

If people label it UX, then you could well be doing it: research and analysis, content strategy, information architecture and interaction design.

Depending on your experience and what our clients need, your day to day work will involve things like:

Qualitative and quantitative user research and analysis from putting surveys together to interviewing users and perhaps shadowing them;
Assisting with the planning, running and analysing of usability testing sessions;
Gathering and documenting requirements (both from our clients and from their users);
Taking part in sketchboarding workshops and other collaborative solution design sessions;
Content strategy work looking at things like messages and content templates;
Transforming sketches and notes into clickable prototypes;
Assisting with the production of other UX deliverables such as sitemaps, personas, etc.

You may know how to do some of this stuff already but either way you’ll be getting on the job training and we’ll support you in your personal development. As your skills and understanding improve, you’ll be given more responsibility and opportunities to flex your UX muscles.

You’ll be working from our office in Cardiff (so you’ll need to be fairly local) with the odd field trip to visit our clients and their users.

Who we’re looking for:
You are:

Passionate about UX;
A people person;
A good communicator who can write in plain English (bonus points for Welsh);
Capable of thinking critically;
Organised (whether that’s naturally or through your dedication to a system or tool, we don’t mind as long as it gets the job done).

It’s vital that you like researching and teaching yourself new things but you’ll also need to have experience in one of these areas:

Planning, writing or editing content, preferably for the web;
Information organisation;
Business analysis and requirements gathering;
Research with people (any type, as long as it involved talking to people);
Data analysis (knowing what numbers you need, how to crunch them, and how to explain the results to a layman).

Experience in something like HTML/CSS (bonus points for Haml/Sass), a prototyping tool (e.g. Axure, Balsamiq, etc.), or a graphics package (e.g. Adobe CS, etc.) would be a bonus and you should definitely mention that.

As this is a Junior – Middleweight role we’re not necessarily looking for you to have formal work experience or qualifications in UX. We’re looking for the right person and we’ll tailor the job level, and salary, appropriately.

Whatever your experience though, we do want you to prove your interest in UX: Maybe you blog, maybe you’ve been to conferences, maybe you’ve just done loads of reading and can talk intelligently about what you’ve learned. Make sure your application shows it.

What you get:
Salary is £18k to £25k depending on experience. There’s also a bunch of perks like a contributory pension and subsidised gym membership.
