Freelance Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre - Anywhere

Closing date: 15/01/21 We're looking for an evolvable visual identity for Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre and an accessible, user-centred bilingual website, incorporating a dedicated, creative e-commerce platform

The Background Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre (LGAC) is an incorporated charity and governed by a Voluntary Board of Trustees. LGAC is the regional centre for visual arts and craft in south-east Wales. In recent years we have engaged with audiences of up to 45,000 per year in our projects at the centre, other venues and in outreach activities reinforcing our position as a valued resource within our local community, regionally and nationally. LGAC opened in 1966 in the centre of Cwmbran, we now house gallery spaces, a craftshop, café, education and meeting rooms. The building’s Victorian architecture and character give the arts centre a unique atmosphere, and it plays a key role in our capacity to deliver our aims and objectives for the community. The love that our audience has for the building and the activities which take place within it has ensured that we have remained at the forefront of the artistic and social community in Torfaen for over 50 years.

Visual identity

This visual identity will need to represent the future of Llantarnam Grange, so therefore contemporary in terms of aesthetics. It must be bilingual, accessible, usable in a variety of media including print, on-line and video, and inviting in tone reflecting the Arts Council of Wales’ strategic goal of the arts being ‘For the Benefit of all’ and Llantarnam Grange’s five core values: Creativity – Everyone has a right to be creative, we champion production and learning Supportive – Being the bridge between ambition and success Equity – Understanding the inequalities of society and challenging them at every opportunity Legacy – Building a more inclusive and exciting sector through long-term impact Placemaking – A venue that is loved by everyone.

We are primarily looking to develop a logo(s), colour palette and font(s) as well as the design of interior and exterior signage. The visual identity will also need to be evolvable as Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre develops new strands of activity, partnership working and pushing towards a major redevelopment of the venue in the future. We are inviting graphic and web designers (both freelance and studios), web developers and illustrators (individual or collaborative tenders are welcomed) to either pitch ideas or present previous work as an illustration for such a visual identity for Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre.

Website COVID-19 has taught us that we urgently require a digital user-experience that reflects the warm, open experience visitors receive on entering Llantarnam Grange in person. We also seek to provide a creative and ambitious commercial platform for artists and makers to sell their work. With this in mind, we are seeking an individual or team to re-imagine what our website can be, how we can provide accessible information to audiences, how we can be a digital hub for contemporary craft in Wales, and attract new audiences to our work.

Budget We have divided our budget as follows: £10,000 – Design and implementation of a new visual identity and website. £2,500 – Support costs for training of Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre staff and stakeholder engagement with the wider community.
