2D Animator

Full-time Tiny Wizard Studio in Abergavenny

Join the Tiny Wizard team as a Superstar Animator!

Hello again! We're looking for an animator to join our small but growing team at Tiny Wizard Studio. Full job description below but please send through CV's and Showreels through to [email protected]

How often? A full-time contract with a six-month probation period. If we’re not able to do the traditional face to face interviews we’ll conduct them via zoom and we’re hoping we’ll be back to normal soon and all be back full time in the studio, in the heart of Abergavenny.

Who will I report to? That would be me, Jessica Morgan (chief Wizard) and co-founder David Morgan (bearded wizard!)

How long for? The usual, 35 hours a week. We like to be flexible though so we can have a chat about what that looks like for you.

Where? We’ve got a magical studio right in the middle of beautiful Abergavenny, with plenty of parking, space and glorious views. With the lock-down in progress still, you’ll have the choice to work remotely (as some of the team are) or join us in safety at the studio. With that in mind, it would be super useful if you have your own equipment for working but as soon as we’re back in the studio, you’ll be furnished with all the snazzy equipment you need to do your best work.

Show me the money! We are extremely aware that we’ve not specified a skill level for this position, which is why we haven’t put a number on the page as yet. We’re very open to the conversation once we find out if we’re a good fit. It would be useful to know what your salary expectations are initially. That all sounds great, what will I be doing?

Great question there amigo! We had a pretty epic 2020, despite the challenges and grew the team to a team of 9 and we’re set to continue this growth during 2021. We’ve had a great deal of demand for animated video so we need another animator to join Gareth, Lewys and Jordan and help them deliver spellbinding animations that delight and engage.

We work with organizations all over the globe and we specialize in animated explainer videos. Please check out our website www.tinywizardstudio.com and our Youtube channel to see some

examples of the kinds of projects we work on and to see if it’s something you’d be excited to be a part of. You’ll be working closely with Jess, our in-house copywriter who develops our scripts, at which point, you’ll take over to develop an initial storyboard & concept art for review by the team and the client. You’d need to be comfortable working from a script, working with the designer’s brand guides and styles and bringing the story to life. You’ll also need to be comfortable working with voiceover and music tracks and bringing it altogether in one final composition for publishing on screen. Don’t be put off by the styles we’ve adopted in our existing videos, we’re very much open to bringing on board different styles and approaches and you might be just what we need to diversify. Variety is the spice of life after all!

But don’t get too comfy, you won’t be sitting in front of your screen all day! (once we get back into the studio that is!) A huge part of why we work so well with our clients is our commitment to being engaging, social and present. We believe that the age of the faceless organisation is over and as we might have mentioned, we love working with people and we certainly don’t deliver projects and then disappear. We need someone energetic with fantastic communication skills who will be just as at home mingling with a crowd or being utterly charming over the phone as they would sporting some humongous headphones and getting down to work with just yourself and a shiny screen for company.

As well as being utterly unstoppable as a creative soul, a social butterfly and have a charming phone manner (are we asking for too much?), we need you to be willing to keep learning new skills (we’ll help of course), be honest and open (because if you are, there’s nothing we can’t overcome), be organised and punctual, love working with people and just, generally be a great person to be around!

Oh, and you must love dogs. (Because there may be one occasionally sleeping under your desk)

Can I move up in the business? If we find the right person to join our team and they do their part, we will be on the road to a bigger, more successful, more profitable business! #Winning. When we get there, part of the reason would be down to you, so yes, absolutely. We’ll check in with you along the way and see if we’re going in the right direction.

What personal attributes and qualifications are you looking for? Let’s start with the essentials... An After Effects Superstar, knowledge of the rest of Adobe's suite is handy too, especially illustrator & photoshop. A good working knowledge of animation and the ability to use the 12 principles of animation (and know when to break those rules). A great understanding of graphic design, colour theory & typography (mixed with an excellent sense of timing are pretty essential.) High-level creative thinking and the confidence to use it A positive mindset (sometimes things get stressful, but the ability to find solutions rather than dwell on the problem is golden) Illustration skills (sounds obvious but you’ll be working from initial storyboards all the way through to the finished video so this is a must) The confidence to share and present ideas internally and to clients Motivation and the desire to execute every job to the highest standard Punctuality (It’s just good manners) The ability to deliver on time and work to a schedule Excellent written and verbal communication skills (definitely a must) Be organised and deliberate at logging tasks and recording Be honest (it’s so important as a team to have trust in each other) Willingness to learn new skills independently or within the work environment Ego-free (Just thought we’d get that out there sooner rather than later. We’re all about the team and there’s no room for giant heads in our office (we have oldy worldy beams) Desirable... ● Skills in 3D MoGraph ● A degree in a creative field. (i.e Animation, Design) ● Photography skills ● Experience in a professional agency
