The Role

We are looking for Freelance Digital Product Designers to join our mission to change people’s lives with technology.

We’re looking to expand our freelance network of individuals we can collaborate with on our projects with clients, the project brief is for a short term project starting within the next 4 weeks, but there’s opportunity for several larger projects over the following months.

Location: Big Lemon’s ‘home’ is in Wales, but we are entirely a remote working set up, all we ask is that you’re mostly available between 10am - 3pm GMT when collaboration with the team and stakeholders is required.

What are we hoping for?

Desirables - not the be all and end all. We prioritise passion, culture fit and journey over anything else.

• Able to demonstrate diverse creative UI design skills with a reflective portfolio.
• Broad understanding of UI design principles for digital products.
• Understanding of UX design principles and ability to work closely with other UX/UI designers.
• Experience in creating prototype wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps based on the user's needs.
• Proficiency in any of Sketch, Adobe Suite, Figma, Invision Studio, and/or other visual design and wire-framing tools.
• Visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction.
• Ability to present your designs and solutions to various stakeholders.
• Keenness to solve problems creatively and effectively.

Anything else? Absolutely not essential.

• An awareness and understanding of the development process for building digital products would be great.

As a small team we work very closely. We don’t believe in working in silos. We are a mix of introverts and extroverts. We love to natter about projects openly and transparently. It is definitely one of our special sauces. Do you have the special sauce?

Our intention is to work with people and on projects we enjoy working on as a team; to design, solve, build something that not only aligns with our ethos and values but will allow us to push the boundaries of what's technically possible. Researching, developing and creating unique products for others and internal projects.

Our hopes for the future are to achieve our journey to BCorp status which we have now successfully submitted; continuing to align our Tech with Purpose mission with the Future Generations Act for Wales, their 5 'ways-of-working' for Public Bodies to achieve the seven well-being goals being: Long-term, Integration, Involvement, Collaboration, Prevention; Have an active part in the Welsh Ecosystem, and UK Wide, to raise awareness and tackle the diversity and equality divide in the creative industries.

You may have seen we have won a place in the Escape the City 100 2021 organisations. The award focuses on the people, projects, sustainability, impact, again in line with our wider mission. We wrote a reflective blog recently about the journey so far.

Big Lemon ensures clear two-way channels of communication throughout any relationship from the very start, with dates in the diary for review of each element of the creation, ensuring we gather a wide range of thoughts, feedback, guidance and agreement.
