Carrick are an integrated digital and graphic design agency. We are looking for a talented web developer to join our team as we continue to expand our digital portfolio.

The successful applicant will assist in the design, development, build and maintenance of websites, emails and web applications using latest techniques and practices.

We would prefer at least a year’s work experience and you will be expected to demonstrate experience of HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL and JavaScript in addition to using media queries to create fully responsive websites. Knowledge of a CMS (ideally Concrete 5) as well as experience and understanding of ecommerce systems would be an advantage.

The ideal Web Developer will also be competent in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator with high attention to detail and strong problem solving skills.

Web Developer Job Description:

Your role will be to assist in the development, build and maintenance of websites, emails and web applications. This includes working with the team to shape the role and continually explore new working practices. This will include the following responsibilities:

Responsibilites:

• Write programming code, either from scratch or by adapting existing website software and graphics packages to meet business requirements
• Creation of site layout/user interface from provided design concepts by using standard HTML/CSS practices.
• Get involved during the initial stages of projects to offer a technical perspective alongside our creative team at website meetings.
• Work seamlessly with our design team, creating layered design files to create slick websites with a heavy focus on creating a great user experience.
• Work without close supervision, supply clear progress updates, raise concerns when necessary and ultimately manage your own time to meet deadlines.
• Produce accessible websites using semantic markup when necessary.
• Use JavaScript and AJAX to create rich and interactive user interfaces, including the use of common libraries such as jQuery.
• Produce responsive sites using media queries.
• Adhere to coding standards and conventions.
• Have a strong work ethic; able to work under pressure and deliver great results on multiple projects.
• Be meticulous in your attention to detail, in particular with regards to performance, testing, compatibility and graceful degradation.
• Keep up-to-date with recent technological and software developments
• Produce HTML emails using best practices to ensure optimum compatibility.
• Produce SEO friendly sites
• Provide cover for the design team when necessary on any job.
• Liaise with existing contacts (developers, IT departments etc) when necessary
• Work additional hours when required to meet deadlines, which could include evenings and weekends.
• Develop skills and expertise in appropriate software/programming languages.
• Application/Framework design as needed.
• Specifications/Requirements gathering as needed.
• Routine daily maintenance of existing sites and applications.
• Provide input for quoting purposes (time estimates, hosting costs etc)
• Assist in the development and execution of online marketing activities
